Website Reflection

I enjoyed this project because it was not very difficult and it was a good way to end the semester. I have only made one website before so it was good practice in case I need to ever make another one in the future. I used Webs because it seemed easier than Publisher and it turned out that it was. It was easy to post pictures, video, and hyperlinks using Webs. I recommend anyone who has never made a website before to use Webs.

Research Paper Reflection

Overall I didn't mind doing the research paper other than I had little time to do it for the extra 20 points. The 20 bonus points forced me to keep writing so I could get it done, which was good because then I no longer had to worry about it. Dr. Austin also gave us plenty of information about how to do the research paper and how to cite sources.

Ethnography Reflection

I liked doing the ethnography assignment because it was much easier than the research project. I also liked my topic of Army ROTC and this made the project more enjoyable. This paper was a good way to finish the semester instead of maybe finishing the semester with the research project.

I would possibly interview one of the cadre in ROTC. My question would be "What is your greatest achievement while in the Army?" My topic for the ethnography is ROTC.

The title of my article is In the Tank: Did the press help elect Barack Obama? McCollam explains he is a journalist and voted for Obama. He says not all of the media is liberal, but most people believe it is. McCollam also says you need to know where the information you are receiving is coming from. He says we need to watch different news stations so we get more balanced news.

1. How does specific media bias affect how news is interpreted and delivered?

I am interested in politics and how the media spins news. Every time I watch the news I have to remember what station it is on so I know how they will interpret a certain story. CNN for example, only reported news that supported Obama during the election.

2. Should the electoral college be discarded in favor of a simple popular vote in presidential elections?

The electoral college is often debated every election. In my paper I would argue why the electoral college is necessary in the elections as opposed to a popular vote.

3. Should a national form of health care be created, or should health care remain a private industry?

This is another topic that is debated a lot in the elections. I would argue in my paper why health care should remain a private industry. Instituting a national form of health care in the U.S. would be socialism, which has failed everywhere else it has been tried.

Previous Research Assignment

Last semester I took English 101 with Dr. Sideris and we were required to do a 15 page research paper on a topic of our choice. He gave us about ten weeks to do it so there was plenty of time to get it done. I had to do a lot of research on my topic because I did not know much about it. He also required about 15 sources. I had to make sure I worked on my paper every week so I would not be writing it the last few days of the semester. Although I learned a lot through my paper I was glad it was finished.
